We’re 60+ and rather than moving to a 55 and over community we decided to move permanently to what was our rental property in Historic Beach Haven. Yes, the house is historic, built in 1893. The good thing is that after several devestating storms on this Island, the house still stands. So we’re feeling pretty good about the location. As you know however taking care of a home and yard is somewhat like running a cruise ship and if you want it in tip top shape there is ALWAYS something to do. But did we say “tip top shape”? People that know us, know we’re very relaxed about the condition of our surroundings and we have to be because we are rough on just about everything. Our shoes, our cars, and our furniture seem to wear out quicker than most. Fortunately we’re a family that appreciates “the history” of what the nicks, stains and faults have to tell us and we feel that our home is truly used and loved. We’re not possessed about perfection, just about comfort, welcoming friends and family and a small sense of pride. So far, three months in no unexpected, big repairs but a small kitchen renovation planned down the pike.
